Alan Tudyk Confirmed as Robot 4 in James Gunn’s Upcoming SUPERMAN Film

Alan Tudyk Is The Voice For Robot #4 In Gunn's SUPERMAN FILM

DC fans have a new reason to be excited as James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios and director of the highly anticipated SUPERMAN movie, has officially confirmed that voice-acting legend Alan Tudyk will lend his talents to the role of Robot #4. The announcement, shared via a post on Threads when Gunn responded to a question about Alan Tudyk being one of the robots talking in the latest teaser for the SUPERMAN film. This has sparked enthusiasm among fans, further building anticipation for the film set to release in July 2025.

Tudyk’s casting as Robot 4, a Kryptonian robot stationed at the Fortress of Solitude, marks another collaboration between the actor and Gunn. The duo previously worked together on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Tudyk has already made his mark in Gunn’s revamped DC Universe (DCU) with voice roles as Clayface, Doctor Phosphorous, and Will Magnus in 2024’s Creature Commandos. This latest role adds to Tudyk’s impressive history of voicing robotic characters, including the beloved K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Sonny in I, Robot. Fans on X were quick to note Tudyk’s distinctive voice, with one user,

The reveal came shortly after a CinemaCon trailer showcased a sneak peek of the film(and also Gunn himself shared on X), where Robot #4 is seen alongside other Kryptonian robots tending to a battle-weary Superman. The scene features Superman being dragged back to his lair by his superpowered dog, Krypto, before the robots escort him to a treatment table to address his injuries.

The upcoming Superman film, previously titled Superman: Legacy, is the first cinematic project in the newly established DCU under the leadership of Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, who took over DC Studios in October 2022. The reboot replaces earlier plans for a Man of Steel sequel, which had been in development with Henry Cavill but stalled following production challenges with the DC Extended Universe’s (DCEU) Justice League in 2017.

David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, with the story focusing on the hero’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Gunn has described this version of Superman as “enormously joyful,” a tonal shift from the darker, grittier portrayal by Zack Snyder in the DCEU. At 25 years old, Corenswet’s Superman is more established than Tom Welling’s version in Smallville but younger than Cavill’s DCEU iteration, offering a fresh perspective on the iconic character.

As the release date approaches, all eyes will be on Gunn and his team to deliver a Superman story that resonates with audiences worldwide. If the fan reactions to Tudyk’s casting are any indication, the DCU is off to a promising start.
